Dustin Read sent me a copy of some work that he’s recently done for the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) in the US. They funded his study to gain a better understanding of the core responsibilities of asset managers and the skills required for success in the profession. You have to pay for it at the moment! Obviously there’s a US perspective but it’s a thorough and thoughtful investigation of the roles, responsibilities and skill and knowledge base of real estate asset managers. It must be over 30,000 words long. It documents the sheer breadth of knowledge about the operational and financial knowledge that can be required. Good stuff – if you’re interested in asset management. I am.
