Retail detail

There’s quite a good article in the Guardian providing a short summary of some of the ways that technology is starting to affect retailing.  Whilst real estate analysts have focussed on the implications of technological innovation on the level and nature of demand for space, it seems that the most significant effects are going to be on the demand for labour.  Who would have thought that Amazon would end up opening, what are essentially, automated retail units.  Of course, there’s a bigger picture, we don’t really know what will happen to the ‘displaced’ retail and logistics workers and how the amount and nature of employment will change.
