By design?

The Architect’s Journal have just published a survey on the experiences of architecture students. It’s got picked up by a lot of the press (see here) who are focussing on the prevalence of mental health problems among architecture students.  Disturbing stuff.  I’ve worked alongside architecture departments in a few places.  The culture does seem to be more intense.  In my experience, staff do seem to tend to manufacture artificial pressure in the assessments, so-called ‘crits’ can be quite personal and destructive but it’s also clear from the survey that students have a high regard for their tutors. At Reading, our new architecture course starts this year…
