Future education? (Higher education not real estate)

I read this piece in Los Angeles Review of Book a while back – but I still think about it.  It’s on some of the unhealthy trends in university level education that are emerging in North America – largely driven by the commercialisation of the HE sector.  It’s a pretty negative and quite a personal take that could be read as an articulate tirade from a disillusioned, self-pitying, late career academic (they exist) .  But that would be harsh and a lot of the points ring true.  For anyone who wants a sense of the direction that universities have been moving, then it’s very good and I suspect that some of my colleagues would find a lot to agree with here.
